| Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing Meets with His Tanzanian Counterpart |

On June 1, 2004, Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing met with his Tanzanian counterpart Jakaya Kikwete, who is accompanying President of Tanzania Benjamin William Mkapa on a visit to China. Li said that China and Tanzania enjoys long-standing friendship. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties, the two countries have conducted productive cooperation in all areas, such as political affairs, economy and trade, military affairs, society and culture. As a result, the two countries have become each other's friends of "all weather". China is thankful to Tanzania for its consistent adherence to the one-China policy and stands ready to further enhance coordination and cooperation with Tanzania so as to promote deepened development for relations between the two countries.
Kikwete thanked China for its long-term support for the economic development of Tanzania. He said that Tanzania deems China its best and most reliable friend, stressing that the Tanzanian government would continue to adhere to the one-China stance and would like to enhance cooperation with China in economy and trade, national defense, medical care, tourism and human resources development so as to foster the capacity of Tanzania for self-development.
